Dancing through the mud

We’ve all been there….the overwhelming feeling of being STUCK, sluggish, unmotivated, beaten down and just all around ‘blech’.  I hear ya, happens to the best of us on our worst days.  But fear not, I’m here to help thanks to the power of MUSIC!

Here’s some tunes to help shift your perspective, get lighter, and make you shake your shoulders (along with those negative thoughts) right out the window!  And I’m serious here…the best way to get out of a funk is to MOVE your physical body.  Get outta your head!!  So shimmy, shake, jiggle, boogie, jump, jive, and sing your way to a new and better vibration.

The Middle – Jimmy Eat World

This is my ‘girl, you’ll be just fine’ anthem.  The whole song is a tribute to the power of the journey vs. the destination.  Looooove.

I’m On My Way – The Proclaimers

An often forgotten tune that always helps to put a spring in my step.  Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh….YEAH.

 Firework – Katy Perry

Sometimes a cheesy pop song is precisely what you need and Katy delivers in spades on this tune.  You can’t listen to this and then tell me you don’t feel better about yourself.  On another note, I watched her documentary last weekend and looooved it – yep, cried 2 times.

Believe In You – The Muppets (and Bernadette Peters)

And if Katy doesn’t cut it for ya, I often turn to my childhood friends ‘The Muppets’ for inspiration.  This song always brings a tear to my eye when I’m really feeling hopeless/dejected/inferior/helpless…(need I go on?)

Kind and Generous – Natalie Merchant

When feeling particularly stuck, it’s important to hone your sense of gratitude and be thankful for all you already have vs what you perceive you’re lacking.  Songs like Natalie’s here are a good reminder of all the abundance, kindness, love, and acceptance around you.  So take a listen, sway to the music, and feel the shift inside.

Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey

And of course, it wouldn’t be a ‘feel better about yourself’ playlist if I didn’t include the #1 downloaded track of all time…..
