Grief 101 ·   Hosted by Tammy Faulds, ICF Certified Coach & Grief Educator

Grief has a language. Nobody ever taught it to you.

You've done the bloodwork. Tried the supplements. Addressed the hormones. And something still feels heavy in a way no protocol has touched.

Grief 101 is seven short videos on grief in midlife. A few minutes each. No homework. Just the words you were never handed.

* Education and coaching only, not therapy, medical advice, or crisis care.

You're fluent in pretending. Foreign in grief.

It's not that you're doing it wrong. It's that nobody gave you the map.

You're the one holding it together. Work, the aging-parent logistics, the group chat, the dog's vet appointment. And yet you're tired in a way sleep doesn't fix. Snappy over small things. Teary at commercials. Googling at 2am.

Meanwhile, the internet has 400 opinions. Cut sugar. Try this tea. Just breathe. Lovely. Just not helpful.

The heaviness

A weight in your chest that hormones explain only half of.

The fog

Overwhelmed, confused, and not quite sure what you're even feeling.

The "I'm fine"

An award-worthy performance. Every day. Exhausting.

We live in a grief-illiterate society. Nobody taught us how to grieve, not really, and not for the 40-plus kinds of loss a life can hand you, most of which never involve a funeral.

Divorce. Job loss. Estrangement. A parent who's still here but not who they were. The identity you used to have. The body you used to trust. Even positive changes can bring grief.

Nobody handed us the vocabulary. So we did the only thing we knew how to do. Every loss we never got to fully feel or talk about became a rock we tossed into an invisible backpack, and we kept walking.

And by midlife, that backpack is damn heavy.

Hormones can explain the hot flashes. They can't explain the lump in your throat.

And the longer it stays unnamed, the more it costs you, the energy, the patience, the version of yourself you keep losing time to.

Midlife has a way of stacking things up.
No wonder you're exhausted.

Built for real (mid) life

When women in my work start learning the language of grief, they often describe the same thing: it feels like a weight lifting. Not because the grief is gone. That's not what this does. But because the fog finally has a shape. You'll have words for what's been sitting in your chest, and permission to stop calling it "just hormones." That's the whole shift.

What you'll take with you

It's the introductory education every human should have about grief. And it might be the most relieving few minutes of your week.

Language

A real definition of grief, and words for what's been sitting in your chest.

Context

Why midlife stacks losses on top of each other, and why hormones are only part of the picture.

Recognition

The six myths, STERBs, and "I'm fine" as a performance. Most people see themselves in at least one.

Relief

The sense that nothing is wrong with you. You were never handed the language.

A next step

Clarity on what a grief recovery process looks like, and an idea of what it's like to work with me.

Tammy Faulds, Inner Travel Coaching

Hi, I'm Tammy. I'll be your guide.

I'm an ICF Certified Coach (since 2011), an Advanced Grief Recovery Method Specialist, a Certified Grief Educator, and a Death Doula. I'm also a cancer survivor who once summited Mt. Kilimanjaro on my 30th birthday. So I know a thing or two about carrying heavy things uphill.

This series teaches the introductory language and ideas behind the Grief Recovery Method, an evidence-based approach that has helped more than 1.5 million people worldwide. Here are a few words from a few people who have completed the Grief Recovery Method.

"If we do hold onto grief events like boulders in our backpacks, we are all carrying some pretty heavy loads. But this method provides the tools that will help to unload those boulders, one-by-one, and I do feel lighter."

Kari
"My life has improved to the point where I have made the decision to start experiencing the activities that bring me joy now. I don’t need to wait for retirement to be happy. I went into this program with an idea of what I wanted and got so much more from this than I ever thought possible."

Debbie

"I truly think that anyone who has experienced a loss would benefit from an introduction to the Grief Recovery Method with Tammy. The experience truly transformed my understanding-and experience-of acknowledging and processing grief, and I know that the tools Tammy helped equip me with will continue to be valuable throughout my life."

Sam

Stories reflect individual experiences. Results vary.

A few honest questions.

I'm in menopause. How do I know this isn't just hormones?
It might be, at least partly, and that 100% deserves real medical support. But menopause lands at the same time as some of the biggest losses of our lives, and it amplifies all of them. Most women I work with aren't undertreated medically. They're undertreated emotionally.
Nobody died. Is this still for me?
Yes. Grief isn't reserved just for death. Divorce, estrangement, the loss of your health or your identity, a parent who's still here but no longer who they were. These losses accumulate. You don't need a funeral to qualify or to learn more about grief.
What will I actually get out of this series?
A new way of understanding grief. We live in a grief-illiterate society, so this series is education: what grief really is, why it piles up, why midlife makes it louder, and the myths that keep us stuck. It's about learning the language. The deeper work of completing the pain of a specific loss happens in coaching sessions if you choose to do so.
What will this series ask of me?
Nothing but your time. Seven short videos, watched at your own pace. These videos are educational only, and they don't ask you to share or relive anything. In the last video, I'll show you a few ways to keep going if you want them. If you don't, that's allowed too.
What happens when I sign up?
You'll get an email with the digital keys to the Grief 101 vault right away and can start watching the series whenever you're ready.
Is this medical? Will you diagnose or treat me?
No. This is education and information only. It is not therapy, medical advice, or crisis care, and I don't diagnose or treat. It's meant to work alongside your doctor or therapist, not replace them. If you need immediate help, call or text 988 across Canada and the U.S., 24/7.

Press play whenever you're ready.

Seven short videos. No homework. No pitch at the end of each one. Just the language you've been missing, and a cheat sheet to keep.
