It’s no lie, I LOVE music. I believe music can heal, uplift, hold space, transform, and beautify. I especially love ‘songs of the summer’. There seems to be a sweetness, an air, and an overall lightness to them that magically transports you to a happier place.
And, well, who couldn’t use more happiness?
So on that ‘note’ (I also love puns), let’s enjoy some feel good songs of summer shall we? Here’s my list for your auditory pleasure:
Good Life – One Republic
A good perspective slap song when you’re having a rough day.
Starlight – Muse
‘Our hopes and expectations….black holes and revelations…’ – brilliant lyric.
Boys of Summer – Don Henley
Okay, so it’s an obvious summer jam, but I prefer to think of it as a classic. And you can’t mess with a classic.
The xx – Islands
I love their sound, their music always seems to be able to chill me out. This is a great tune about finding out that what you needed was right in front of you all along.
Nouvelle Vague – Blister In The Sun
I adore this popped up version of the Violet Femmes classic. Makes me wanna run out and dance on the beach.
U2- Dancing Barefoot
I love this Patti Smith cover – and again, it makes me wanna run to the nearest beach, kick off my shoes, unleash my hair, dance in the waves in a flow-y white dress and twirl around a sheer scarf in my hands….too much?!?
Marvin Gaye – Got To Give It Up (Part 1)
This is the song that would keep me dancin’ on the beach after U2 finished.
Silver Swans – Secrets
A truly beautiful song with even more entrancing lyrics (I included the version with lyrics below). Expect to hear more from this Vancouver band, they’re phenomenal.
Phillip Phillips – Home
I fell hard for this boy watching last season’s American Idol – this was his ‘winning’ song – it certainly won me over.
M. Ward – Pure Joy
This is the perfect lullaby to end a beautiful summer day.
